About

Mario Štorga is Assistant Professor at the Chair of Design and Product Development of the University of Zagreb Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (UNIZG FMENA) (www.fsb.unizg.hr). He enrolled in the study of mechanical engineering at the FMENA in Zagreb in 1992 and graduated in 1997 with the specialisation in engineering design. After graduation he was offered a position at the Chair of Design and Product Development at FMENA as a PhD researcher on the project titled "Model of Intelligent CAD System", funded and approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of Croatia. In 1997 he enrolled in the postgraduate study in the field of engineering design theory.

In February 2002 he acquired the M.Sc. degree after having completed master thesis titled "Web Sevices Based System for the Product Data Exchange and Management". In September 2005 he acquired the PhD. degree after having completed PhD. thesis titled "The Design Ontology - Contribution to the Design Knowledge Exchange and Management".

In academic year 2003/2004 by foundation of Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sport of the Republic of Croatia, he spent six months as a visiting researcher at the Technical University of Denmark. In summer 2006 he was visiting researcher at Ecole Centrale de Paris France. In autumn 2007 by foundation of the National Foundation for Science, Higher Education and Technological Development of the Republic of Croatia, Mario Storga spent six months as a visiting researcher at the University of Bath UK.

At the moment he is researcher on the project titled "Models and Methods of Engineering Knowledge Management in Product Development", funded and approved by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sport of Republic of Croatia. He was leading researcher of the TRaceability of ENgineering INformation – TRENIN project funded by EU EUREKA program from 2009-2011 (www.trenin.org).

Since 2004 he served on the scientific advisory boards for DESIGN (www.designconfererence.org, Croatia), ICED (Europe, USA, Australia), ASME (USA) and ICoRD (India) engineering design conferences series. He has been reviewer for Journal of Engineering Design - JoED (Taylor and Francis), International Journal of Concurrent Engineering Research and Applications - CERA (SAGE publications), Distributed and Parallel Databases (Springer), Artificial Intelligence for Engineering Design, Analysis and Manufacturing – AIEDAM (Cambridge University Press USA).

Since 2007, he is responsible for the management of the Centre for Product Development which is collaborating on R&D projects with more than 20 companies from Croatia and Slovenia. Since 2011 he is a member of the Advisory Board of the international organisation the Design Society (www.designsociety.org).

Mario has published over 50 scientific papers (journal and conference)and more than 20 industrial reports. He was invited speaker for numerous academic and industrial workshops and seminars in Croatia and abroad. His scholarly interests include product development, product life-cycle management, product and design process formal modelling, engineering design ontology, theory of technical systems, design under uncertainty, knowledge management, information evolution structuring and visualisation, complexity management and systems thinking.
